BUFFALO, N.Y. - Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that Lawrence Neubert, 46, of San Diego, CA, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 50 grams or more of methamphetamine before Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life imprisonment, and a $10,000,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Higgins, who is handling the case, stated that on September 4, 2014, and Oct. 2, 2014, the defendant mailed packages containing more than 220 grams of methamphetamine, via FedEx, from California to Buffalo. Surveillance video from September 4, 2014, showed Neubert preparing the package and paying for its shipment in cash. In exchange for sending the packages, Neubert received $3500 in USPS money orders.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 18, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Skretny.
