MADISON, WIS. -- Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Grady Riley, 42, Prescott, Wis., was sentenced on August 1 by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 120 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography. This prison term will be followed by 20 years of supervised release. Riley pleaded guilty to this charge on May 4, 2017.
On July 8, 2016, law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at the Riley’s home in Prescott. As agents approached the residence, the defendant attempted to flee, but was ultimately apprehended. Agents searched the residence and found numerous electronic devices. These devices were analyzed and determined to contain more than 1000 images of child pornography.
Riley was also convicted of possessing child pornography in the Western District of Texas in 2009. At the time the agents searched the home, the defendant was on supervised release for that offense.
Judge Conley noted that unless Riley gets treatment, he is a continued danger to society by creating a demand for child pornography and re-victimizing children by viewing it.
In addition to the 120-month sentence on this charge, Riley was sentenced to six months in prison for violating the terms of supervised release on the prior conviction. Judge Conley ordered that term of imprisonment to be served consecutively to the 120 months.
The charge against Riley was the result of an investigation conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation; Prescott Police Department; and Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
