Steubenville, Ohio man indicted on firearm charge

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - A Steubenville, Ohio man was indicted by a federal grand jury of unlawful possession on a firearm, Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen announced.

Thomas Bennett, age 41, was indicted on one count of “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm." Bennet, having previously been convicted of drug possession in Commons Pleas Court in Jefferson County, Ohio in 2017, is accused of possessing a 9mm pistol in Ohio County on Aug. 12, 2017.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wheeling Police Department are investigating.

An indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
