ALBANY, NEW YORK - Jaime Marquez-Venancio, age 50, and a citizen of Mexico, pled guilty yesterday to illegal re-entry into the United States.
The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Chief Patrol Agent John C. Pfeifer, United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector.
Marquez-Venancio was previously removed from the United States to Mexico on April 28, 2017 and again on May 4, 2017. On Sept. 28, 2017, Marquez-Venancio illegally entered the United States from Canada by walking across the border near Mooers, New York. As Marquez-Venancio walked south away from the border, he was arrested by a Border Patrol Agent.
Marquez-Venancio faces up to 2 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn on Feb. 15, 2018. A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors.
This case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
