The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on Oct. 25, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

MADISON, WIS. --Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Timothy W. Vaillancourt, 37, Ashland, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 60 months in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of that drug crime. Vaillancourt pleaded guilty on July 26, 2017.

Vaillancourt was arrested Oct. 23, 2016, for operating a motor vehicle after revocation. Following his arrest, deputies found $920 on his person and an unloaded 9mm handgun and 18 grams of methamphetamine in the car he was driving. Vaillancourt was indicted by a federal grand jury for these offenses on February 15.

At sentencing, Judge Peterson noted that Vaillancourt was responsible for distributing a substantial quantity of methamphetamine, possessed a gun, and had a prior conviction for drug distribution. Vaillancourt will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.

The charge against Vaillancourt is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration; Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation; Ashland County Sheriff’s Department; and Ashland Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan.
