Assistant U.S. Attorney Wei Xiang, who is handling the case, stated that according to the complaint, between December 2016 and October 2017, the defendant sold opioids on multiple occasions in the Buffalo area during controlled purchases by the Drug Enforcement Administration. In total, the DEA obtained several thousand dollars worth of opioids from Jorge. Variations of the drugs contained combinations of heroin, fentanyl, butyryl fentanyl, furanyl fentanyl, and U-47700.
The defendant made an initial appearance this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and is being held pending a detention hearing on Oct. 31, 2017.
The criminal complaint is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
