U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that ALEXANDER CASTRO, age 43, of Cape Coral, Florida, was sentenced on Jan. 11, 2018 after previously pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
United States District Judge Lance M. Africk sentenced CASTRO to 84 months of imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
According to court documents, CASTRO was stopped on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish on Dec. 15, 2015. After searching his vehicle, law enforcement seized approximately 6.9 kilograms of cocaine from a hidden compartment. Law enforcement learned that CASTRO was transporting cocaine and drug proceeds between Florida and Texas.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, in investigating this matter. The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan L. Shih.
