Gregory J. Haanstad, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that on Jan. 17, 2018, a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment against a man allegedly involved in an assault and firearms offense on the Menominee Indian Reservation. The indictment named Ronald J. Cloud (age: 34) of Neopit, which is located on the Menominee Indian Reservation. Count One of the indictment charged Cloud with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in violation of 18 United States Code 113(a)(3). Count Two charged Cloud with Use of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence, in violation of 18 United States Code 924(c). In Count One, Cloud faces a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to 3 years of supervised release. In Count Two, Cloud faces a mandatory 10-year consecutive sentence and up to life in prison.
According to the indictment, on about April 9, 2017, Cloud discharged a firearm in furtherance of an armed assault committed against another person
The Menominee Tribal Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier.
An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. #
