PHILADELPHIA - Timothy Smith, 37, of Philadelphia, was charged today by indictment[1] with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen. According to the indictment, on Nov. 25, 2017, Smith was in possession of a Hi-Point, Model C-9, 9mm pistol, with obliterated serial number raised to read P1650136, loaded with 6 live rounds.
If convicted, Smith faces a minimum term of fifteen years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Katherine E. Driscoll.
