MADISON, WIS. -- Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Mitrel Y. Anderson, 30, La Crosse, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 71 months in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Anderson pleaded guilty to this charge on Feb. 11, 2018.
Judge Peterson found that Anderson was responsible for 110 grams of methamphetamine, which includes over 83 grams of methamphetamine in his possession at the time of his arrest. Further, Judge Peterson stated that it was concerning that Anderson also possessed a stolen, loaded firearm when he was arrested on Nov. 17, 2016, and he noted that Anderson had a history of violence and that the sentence was needed for the protection of the public.
The charge against Anderson was the result of an investigation conducted by the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office and the Independence Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Darren C. Halverson.
