CONCORD - Robert R. Costello, 28, of Manchester, pleaded guilty in federal court to bank robbery, United States Attorney Scott W. Murray announced today.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on Dec. 14, 2016, Costello walked into a Citizens Bank in Manchester, New Hampshire, and told the teller to give him money, using words to the effect of, "I don't want to hurt anybody but I'm desperate and it could happen." The teller gave Costello a quantity of United States currency. Surveillance cameras captured images of the robbery, which were broadcast on the news and in social media. Following tips from a number of individuals, Manchester police were able to identify Costello, who was apprehended on Dec. 20, 2016.
Costello is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 11, 2018.
“Bank robberies are violent crimes that threaten the safety of our citizens." said U.S. Attorney Murray. “We are committed to working with all of our law enforcement partners to combat crimes of violence, protect our citizens and improve the safety and security of our state."
This matter was investigated by the Manchester Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Dronzek.
