LAKE CHARLES, La. - United States Attorney David C. Joseph announced that an illegal alien from Mexico was sentenced Thursday to six months in prison for re-entering the United States after being deported.

Raul Delacruz-Valdez, 31, of Fresnillo, Zacatescas, Mexico, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell on one count of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. According to the March 13, 2018 guilty plea, Louisiana State Police conducted a traffic stop on Delacruz-Valdez’s vehicle on March 20, 2017 in Calcasieu Parish. He was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. After his arrest, law enforcement agents discovered that he was an illegal alien who had re-entered the United States without obtaining permission. He had previously been removed on Oct. 18, 2010.

Homeland Security Investigations and Louisiana State Police conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Rossetti prosecuted the case.
