MADISON, WIS. -- Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that John R. Hauk, 40, Town of Barksdale, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to eight years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. Hauk pleaded guilty to this charge on May 3, 2018.

Hauk was working as a local level methamphetamine dealer for Karl McKenzie, a regional supplier who was bringing large quantities of methamphetamine into the Ashland, Wisconsin area. McKenzie was sentenced in September 2017 to 13 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine.

At sentencing, Judge Peterson found that Hauk was responsible for distributing 1.73 kilograms of methamphetamine and noted that Hauk’s conduct had a significant negative effect on the community.

The charge against Hauk was the result of an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration; Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation; Ashland County Sheriff’s Department; and Ashland Police Department. The prosecution of the case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan.
