MADISON, WIS. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Quentin Scott, 30, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, was sentenced on Sept. 13, 2018, by U.S. District Judge James Peterson to 59 months in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms. Scott pleaded guilty to this charge on July 3, 2018.
In 2012, Scott was convicted in state court for being a felon in possession of a firearm and, along with other charges, was sentenced to 16 months in prison followed by a period of community supervision. After being released from prison, Scott was selected as an offender participant in the Madison Police Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU). SIU offenders are selected in a blind process by community members and law enforcement professionals. While under joint Wisconsin Department of Correction and SIU supervision, offenders are offered a wide variety of resources to help them reintegrate into the community and remain crime-free, with the assurance that if they commit new crimes they will face stiff penalties.
In October 2017, Scott was found to be in possession of two handguns and he was indicted for being a felon in possession of firearms in federal court. Scott’s state supervision was also revoked and will be served concurrent to his federal sentence.
The charge against Scott was the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan.
This case has been brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the U.S. Justice Department’s program to reduce violent crime. The PSN approach involves collaboration by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent and deter gun violence.
