Madison, Wis. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Joshua Robertson, 26, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was sentenced on November 2 by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 12 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Robertson pleaded guilty to this charge on July 30, 2018.
During the investigation into Robertson and his co-defendants, law enforcement used a confidential source to purchase methamphetamine from Robertson on four occasions in Eau Claire between January 5 and Jan. 21, 2018. The confidential source also purchased a firearm from Robertson on January 21.
On Jan. 26, 2018, DEA agents in Colorado Springs, Colorado, watched Robertson and co-defendant Tyler Stratton-Anstice drive to and enter the known residence of local methamphetamine distributor. On Jan. 28, 2018, DEA agents and Eau Claire police officers observed Stratton-Anstice and Robertson returning from Colorado while driving separate cars near Interstate 94 in Hudson, Wisconsin. Officers stopped both cars and a search of Robertson’s car revealed approximately 819 grams of methamphetamine.
In imposing the sentence, Judge Conley noted that Robertson had two prior drug trafficking convictions in Wisconsin and was on probation at the time he travelled to Colorado. Judge Conley also stated that he was deeply concerned that Robertson possessed and sold firearms while dealing pound-level quantities of methamphetamine.
Robertson was the fourth and final defendant to be sentenced to federal prison for participating in this methamphetamine conspiracy. Christopher Anstice was sentenced on October 2 to 10 years, Tyler Stratton-Anstice was sentenced on October 24 to 10 years, and Sara Sullivan was sentenced on October 31 to 135 months. Anstice and Stratton-Anstice are father and son.
The charges against Robertson are the result of an investigation by the West Central Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution of this case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron D. Wegner.
