United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Failure to Appear.

William J. Waukechon, age 19, was indicted on Feb. 13, 2019. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on Feb. 21, 2019, and pled not guilty to the Indictment.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

On June 12, 2018, Waukechon was indicted for multiple offenses, including Using and Carrying a Firearm During and in Relation to Crime of Violence. He made his initial appearance on that Indictment on Aug. 13, 2018, and was subsequently released pending trial. The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.

Waukechon was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
