MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - Jay D. Dehaven, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, was sentenced today to five years probation for filing a false tax return, United States Attorney Bill Powell announced.
Dehaven, age 39, pled guilty to one count of “Filing False Income Tax Return" in January 2019. Dehaven admitted to understating his income by more than $136,000, resulting in an unpaid tax of more than $50,000. The crime took place in October 2016 in Berkeley County.
Dehaven was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and $99,640 in restitution.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod J. Douglas prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Internal Revenue Service investigated.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided.
