Ocean Springs Man Pleads Guilty to Being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Gulfport, Miss. - Joshua David Odom, 35, of Ocean Springs, pled guilty today before U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Kurt Thielhorn, Special Agent in Charge of The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

On Oct. 12, 2017, Odom was in possession of a firearm he obtained from a residence in Jackson County. Odom was previously convicted in the Circuit Court of Jackson County and sentenced to serve a period of seven (7) years each on 2 separate counts of burglary, as well as three (3) years for credit card fraud, with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. As a convicted felon, Odom is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Odom will be sentenced by Judge Ozerden on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at 1:30 p.m., in Gulfport. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones.
