ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Ricky Thomas, 52, of Gallup, N.M., was sentenced on Feb. 13 in federal court in Albuquerque to 33 months in prison for assault resulting in serious bodily injury in Indian Country.
Thomas previously pleaded guilty to this offense on July 8, 2019. In his plea agreement, Thomas admitted to committing the assault on the Navajo Nation in McKinley County on Sept. 15, 2018. Thomas pushed the victim off a porch, causing the victim to fall on his head. As a result of the assault, the victim suffered serious spinal cord injuries and is now quadriplegic.
The Gallup office of the FBI investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison Jaros prosecuted the case.
