GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge announced that Jeffrey Allen Kaiser, of Ludington, Michigan, was sentenced to 228 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Judge Paul L. Maloney on Monday Sept. 27, 2021. Mr. Kaiser was also ordered to pay a $300 special assessment, and, when he is released from prison, he will be on federal supervised release for a period of 3 years. Judge Maloney, in imposing sentence, commented that Mr. Kaiser posed a “very significant threat to the public."
Mr. Kaiser was convicted after a three-day jury trial earlier this year. The jury heard that on Aug. 13, 2020, the Ludington Police Department received 911 calls regarding two separate incidents where Mr. Kaiser threatened people with a pistol. One of these incidents occurred outside in a residential neighborhood in downtown Ludington. Following these events, Ludington Police searched Mr. Kaiser’s home and backyard, locating a.357 Magnum revolver, a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, and various rounds of ammunition. Because he had been previously convicted of a felony, Mr. Kaiser was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
“The use of firearms to threaten or harm others calls for serious consequences," commented U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge. “We work hard and coordinate with local law enforcement partners as much as we can to ensure there are significant consequences in such cases."
This case was investigated by the ATF and the Ludington Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren F. Biksacky and Alexis M. Sanford as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative to reduce violent crime.
