Logan County Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Federal Gun Crimes

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Logan County man was sentenced today to 10 years in prison for possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of firearms.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Clifford Lee Griffin, 38, of Bruno, was arrested on the evening of Sept. 30, 2019, at a residence in the Gilman Bottom area of Logan County where he had been selling drugs. Griffin was arrested by members of the West Virginia State Police who were executing a search warrant due to drug activity at the location. Troopers recovered two loaded handguns, over 75 grams of methamphetamine and over 100 grams of heroin. Griffin admitted that he possessed the guns to protect his drugs and money.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Nowles Heinrich handled the prosecution.
