Hastings: Administration’s Budget Will Increase Energy Costs for All Americans

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Natural Resources on Feb. 26, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 26, 2009 - House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings released the following statement today regarding the Administration’s fiscal year 2010 budget proposal:

“Under this budget proposal, Americans will be paying more to fill up their gas tanks, families will be paying more to heat their homes, businesses will be paying more to keep the lights on and farmers will be paying more to operate their equipment. Page after page of this budget has new fees and new taxes, including a $646 billion cap-and-trade energy tax. At a time when families and businesses are struggling to survive, the last thing our nation can afford is to have the government deliberately hike the cost of energy."
