WASHINGTON - Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) today praised President Obama and the Department of Interior for reaching the president’s goal of permitting 10,000 new megawatts of clean energy on America’s public lands with the announcement of a massive new wind project in Wyoming. Along with strong private sector investment in wind and solar energy, America’s clean energy sector is growing exponentially. Wind has increased from almost nothing several years ago to 4 percent of total electricity today. Solar is doubling every year.
Rep. Markey, the Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over energy development on public lands, released the following statement:
“3 million more homes will soon be powered by American clean energy from American public lands, thanks to President Obama and his administration. President Obama saw the promise in America’s clean energy, and met his goal to authorize 10,000 new megawatts of clean energy built on America’s public lands. If we properly utilize our public lands and refrain from raising taxes on wind energy production, as Governor Romney proposes, wind energy will continue to be an important engine of job creation."
