Oversight and Reform Committee and the bills it addressed on Aug. 2

The Oversight and Reform Committee handled H.Res.1313 bill on Aug. 2, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.Res.1313 titled “Recognizing the 10-year anniversary of the tragic attack that took place at the Oak Creek Sikh Gurdwara on August 5, 2012, and honoring the memory of those who died in the attack”. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Bryan Steil with Scott Fitzgerald, Mike Gallagher, Glenn Grothman, Ron Kind, Gwen Moore, Mark Pocan, Thomas Tiffany as cosponsors.

The Oversight and Reform Committee moves forward in some way on one bill per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
