A $3.9 million grant will enable the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority in Pineville, W.V., to build three facilities to support carbon manufacturing in the Barkers Creek Industrial Park.
The Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration made the award, according to a July 27 news release. The grant will be matched with $975,000 in state and local funds. It is expected to generate $8 million in private investments and create 59 jobs.
“The Biden administration is committed to ensuring that our communities are provided with the resources they need to diversify and grow their economies,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in the release. “This investment will allow for the development and manufacturing of new carbon-based products, spurring business expansion and economic resilience.”
Communities get support from the EDA for locally driven strategies as they work to rebuild and recover from the pandemic, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said, the release reported. Improving Pineville’s critical infrastructure will spur private investment, diversity the local economy and create jobs in support of the region’s manufacturing industry, he added.
Sen. Joe Manchin said the EDA’s partnership in West Virginia comes through critical investments in communities for economic development and the creation of good-paying, long-term jobs, according to the release.
“Expanding the carbon products industry in Wyoming County will strengthen local economic resilience and attract new business opportunities to the entire region, which is why I requested this funding through the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations process,” Manchin said in the release.
