Michael Gabaldon Named Director Technical Resources

Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Bob Johnson recently announced that he has named Michael Gabaldon as Director Technical Resources.

"The operational and technical experience he brings will assist Reclamation to meet the future water and power demands," said Commissioner Johnson. "Mike brings extensive technical and managerial experience which spans from the field to the Denver and Washington office levels."

Mike will oversee the Technical Service Center, Research and Development Program, the Power Office, and the Dam Safety Officer/Design Engineering and Construction Office. The position is located in Denver, Colorado. He takes over the position after serving the last two years as the Director of the Technical Service Center.

Mike began his career in Reclamation in 1982 as a Construction Inspector at the Montrose Projects Office in Colorado. He has also worked in the Durango Projects Office and then the Bend Construction Office, where he worked as Chief of the Office of Engineering Division.

In 1998, Mike was selected as the Area Manager of the Albuquerque Area Office where he was responsible for Reclamation program activities in the Rio Grande, Pecos River, and Canadian River basins. Mike was promoted to Deputy Director of Operations in 2001 and relocated to Washington, D.C. He was subsequently promoted to the Director of Policy, Management, and Technical Services in 2003.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico and an Associates Degree in Water Technology/Utilities from New Mexico State University. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado.
