Reclamation Hosts Scoping Meetings on Steamboat Rock State Park Recreational Opportunities

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on June 24, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

The Bureau of Reclamation is hosting a public scoping meeting on July 1 to examine a proposal to add recreational opportunities at Steamboat Rock State Park located on Banks Lake near Grand Coulee Dam in Washington.

The meeting will be held at the former Coulee City High School/Middle School, 312 E. Main Street, Coulee City, WA, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The proposal is at the request of the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission to achieve recreation improvement goals and management actions contained in Reclamation's 2001 Resource Management Plan for the Banks Lake Management Area. The proposed action would also provide additional facilities as recommended in WSPRC's Centennial 2013 Plan.

Steamboat Rock State Park is a destination park that operates at or near full capacity from May 15 to September 15. The proposed Steamboat Rock State Park campground addition project would provide desired recreational facilities and increase the capacity of the Park by providing additional campsites, rustic cabins, and boat moorage slips.

The National Environmental Policy Act and State Environmental Policy Act require Reclamation and WSPRC to evaluate the environmental impacts resulting from this proposed action. Reclamation and WSPRC is seeking public input in identifying issues and concerns about the proposed action.

The meeting facility is accessible to people with disabilities. Please contact Bruce Loranger at (509) 754-0210 at the Reclamation's Ephrata Field Office in Ephrata, WA, for sign language interpretation for the hearing impaired or other auxiliary aids.

Written comments on this proposal will be accepted until July 22, they can be sent to the Bureau of Reclamations Ephrata Field Office, P.O. Box 815, Ephrata, WA 98823.
