Reclamation to Participate in Largest Hydropower Industry Gathering

The largest gathering of the hydropower industry will occur at HydroVision International in Sacramento, Calif., the week of July 18 and the Bureau of Reclamation will be there sharing its knowledge of hydropower and collaborating with other industry officials.

"Gathering with other hydropower professionals and sharing information will make Reclamation's Hydropower Program better and will make the industry better as we all work to meet the energy and water demands of the future," said Acting Senior Advisor for Hydropower Kerry McCalman.

Reclamation staff will present on fifteen panels, two poster sessions, will host a tour of Folsom Dam, and will exhibit in the hall.

The presentations are:

* Mid-Pacific Assistant Regional Director Pablo Arroyave is a panelist for "From the Board Room to the Plant Floor: Creating an Asset Management Culture."

* Technical Service Center Chief of Infrastructure Services Division Mark Boyle is a panelist on "How Asset Managers Are Changing with the Times."

* Senior Power Program Engineer Erin Foraker will serve as a panelist for "Incorporating Lessons Learned into Your Approach to Asset Management."

* Chief of Dam Safety Brian Becker is a panelist on "Preventing Failures - Taking a Systems Approach to Dam Safety Actions."

* Technical Service Center Manager of Geotechnical Engineering Daniel Osmun is a panelist for "Impact! Debating How Changes in Project Operations Affect Dam Safety."

* Acting Senior Advisor for Hydropower Kerry McCalman will serve on two panels, "How Are Federal MOUs Affecting New Development in the United Sates?" and "Grid Stability and Optimization"

* Renewable Integration and Development Analyst Michael Pulskamp is a panelist for "New Technologies for New Developments" and also be doing a posterboard presentation for "Hydropower Resource Assessment at Existing Reclamation Facilities."

* Technical Service Center Electrical Engineer Eric Eastment is a panelist for "Generator Monitoring to Prevent Forced Outages."

* Central Valley Operations Office Mechanical Engineer Steve Melavic is a moderator for "Turbines: New and Best Maintenance Practices" and Technical Service Center Mechanical Engineer is a panelist on that same panel.

* Columbia-Cascades Area Office Power Systems Supervisor Tom Glover is a panelist for "Tuning up Your Maintenance Program."

* Central Valley Operations Acting Operations Manager Paul Fugitani is a panelist for "Optimizing Reservoir Management: Getting the Most from Your Resource."

* Eastern Colorado Area Office Mechanical Engineer Tom Moritz is a panelist for "Structural and Functional Repairs to Mount Elbert Pumped Storage Unit 1 Generator Rotor."

* Grand Coulee Deputy Power Manager Scott Ross is a panelist for "Effective Tools for Project and Risk Management."

* Technical Service Center Mechanical Engineer John Brooks is a panelist for "Field Experiences with Optimizing Assets."

* Technical Service Center Civil Engineer Jerzy Salamon is doing a posterboard session on "Instrument Test and Structural and Fatigue Analysis of Head Covers and Gates Operating Mechanism for Unit G24 of Grand Coulee Third Powerplant."

Reclamation will share information about its Hydropower Program on the exhibit floor. Visitors to HydroVision can stop by Booth 429 and learn about its recent studies of adding hydropower to existing facilities and the process underway to update Facilities Instructions, Standards, & Techniques which pertain to the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric equipment.
