FOLSOM, Calif. ? On Monday, June 15, the Bureau of Reclamation will close the public trail on top of Folsom Reservoir’s Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam, located between Folsom Point and Sophia Parkway in Folsom, Calif. The closure is for public safety and security purposes during the last stage of construction activities at MIAD.
The trail along the top, or crest, of MIAD will be closed to the public from Monday, June 15, 2015, through February 2016. Closing the crest will impact people who enjoy using the trail between Folsom Point and Brown’s Ravine. The City of Folsom, the California Department of Parks & Recreation and Reclamation have identified a trail detour between the east and west ends of MIAD (please see the detour map). Existing access to Folsom Lake will remain the same. Pedestrian and bicycle access are available on Green Valley Road, and parking for walking, biking and horseback riding is available at Folsom Point.
The MIAD Overlay Project is an important part of the ongoing Folsom Dam Safety and Flood Damage Reduction activities. The Overlay Project consists of installing a filter system and increasing the mass on the downstream side of MIAD to provide a more seismically resistant embankment.
