Yuma, Ariz. - Reclamation’s Yuma Area Office, in collaboration with Imperial County and the Imperial Irrigation District (IID), is alerting area visitors and residents to the permanent closure of the Anza Road Bridge/New Briar Flume over the All-American Canal beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.
Anza Road crosses over the All-American Canal on top of the New Briar Flume approximately 4 miles east of Calexico, California and 2 miles south of CA-98. The flume has deteriorated and Reclamation, IID and engineers from the contract firm NV5 recently inspected the facility to develop a process to repair the New Briar Flume located at the site. During the inspection, engineers from Reclamation and the IID discovered the serious structural deficiencies at the bridge site requiring immediate attention.
Based on the review, engineers working at the site believe the structure has lost much of its ability to support heavy traffic loads and that the facility should be closed for public safety reasons and will not reopen for public use.
