CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation has issued a Record of Decision for the Newlands Project Resource Management Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement. The Newlands Project RMP outlines Reclamation management actions that will be implemented over a 10-year planning span.

Reclamation has selected Alternative B as the preferred alternative. Alternative B represents land management that is proactive and provides flexibility to adjust to changing conditions over the life of the plan, while emphasizing a level of protection and enhancement of the resources into the future.

The Newlands Project has features in both the Truckee and Carson River basins. The project’s Truckee basin features include Lake Tahoe Dam, Derby Diversion Dam, the Truckee Canal and an irrigation delivery system for approximately 5,000 acres. The Carson basin features include Lahontan Dam, Lahontan Power Plant, Carson River Diversion Dam, canals and drains for irrigation of approximately 55,000 acres.

The ROD is based on information and analysis contained within the Final EIS, which are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2822.
