CAREY, Idaho - The Bureau of Reclamation has closed the well that supplies drinking water to the Little Wood Campground due to health concerns. The campground is located on Little Wood Reservoir Road, 11 miles northwest of Carey, Idaho.
The drinking water supply at the Little Wood Campground is routinely sampled for health and safety purposes. During a recent inspection, a water sample tested positive for coliform bacteria. Further testing is necessary to confirm the well is safe.
“Public safety is our primary concern," said Ryan Newman, manager of the Upper Snake Field Office. “We are working to assure all health concerns are addressed in a timely manner."
The public is advised to bring their own drinking water as there are no other sources of drinking water offered at the campground. Public supplies are also available within the town of Carey.
Little Wood Campground is open year-round and offers fishing and boating opportunities. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis; there are no electrical hook-ups.
Little Wood Reservoir is formed by Little Wood Dam which was completed in 1939. The dam is part of the Little Wood River Project and provides supplemental irrigation water to approximately 9,550 acres in Blaine County, Idaho.
