Lower American River Flows to be Decreased to Install Fish Weir Structure at Nimbus Fish Hatchery

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Aug. 15, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

The fish weir structure is installed annually to guide spawning Chinook salmon into the hatchery fish ladder. Folsom Dam, Folsom Reservoir and Nimbus Dam

are located about 25 miles east of Sacramento, Calif., and are features of the Central Valley Project.

Approximate working hours on Aug. 18 will be 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Following completion of the work, Reclamation will begin to incrementally increase flows by

approximately 1,000 cfs per hour back up to 3,250 cfs. This increase could begin as early as 9 a.m. and should be completed by 3 p.m.

Please note that increasing the flows in the lower American River back up to 3,250 cfs would cause a rise of approximately 1.63 feet near Nimbus Dam.

Recreationists on or along the lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to variable flow conditions.

Daily information on expected flows in the American River can be found on the California Data Exchange Center website athttp://cdec.water.ca.gov/queryRes.html or on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website at http://www.spk-wc.usace.army.mil/reports/release_changes.html.
