OTHELLO, Washington - After a long winter, outdoor enthusiasts will soon be able to enjoy the arrival of spring at two Bureau of Reclamation recreational facilities in scenic central Washington. Scooteney Park campground in Franklin County and Summer Falls State Park in Grant County are scheduled to open May 1st.
Both parks typically receive visitors in April, but because of the harsh winter, additional maintenance has delayed the opening. Scooteney Park Campground does not take reservations, so campers can use the facility on a first-come, first-served basis. The day-use area and boat launch at Scooteney are open year-round. The reservoir is a popular fishing spot known for its yellow perch, crappie, and bass. The park is located 15 miles south of Othello on State Highway 17 in Franklin County.
Summer Falls State Park will open on May 1st as well but for day-use only. The Bureau of Reclamation reminds visitors that swimming is prohibited at this facility. Summer Falls is located 30 miles north of Moses Lake on the north end of Billy Clapp Lake near State Highway 28 in Grant County.
