LOVELAND, Colo. -- The Bureau of Reclamation's Eastern Colorado Area Office (ECAO) has announced lowered water levels at Flatiron Reservoir due to a scheduled maintenance outage.
In preparation for a maintenance project on a siphon that is a portion of the water conveyance infrastructure between Flatiron Reservoir and Highway 34, ECAO has ceased moving water through Flatiron Reservoir. The reservoir has dropped to 5,460 feet in elevation versus the operating norm of 5,470 feet (+/- 2 feet). However, the reservoir level is expected rise slowly during the outage due to inflows from rain.
In order to minimize future disruptions, ECAO and its partners Northern Water and Western Area Power Administration are conducting multiple other unrelated maintenance projects during the siphon repair project. Those projects, which would typically require shutting down water flows and facilities intermittently, will instead be conducted during the siphon outage.
Siphon work is projected to finish by mid- to late-November. Upon work completion, Flatiron Reservoir will start rising again due to project water movement and reach normal levels soon afterwards.
