WASCO, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation has finalized documents to award water conservation grants to North Kern Water Storage District for construction of multiple water conservation projects. Through three separate grants, Reclamation will provide $2.25 million to the district for a total project cost of $5.8 million.
The project will line 1.1 miles of the Callaway Canal with concrete, install water delivery improvement equipment at 112 district-owned groundwater and monitoring wells, and install water level sensing equipment at 14 remote terminal unit locations.
The estimated water conservation benefit of the project equate to more than 3,000 acre-feet of water a year.
Reclamation prepared a Finding of No Significant Impact and Environmental Assessment for the projects in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and they may be viewed at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=30381.
