The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Jan. 3, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

TRUCKEE, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released two documents for public review pertaining to Boca Dam, located on the Little Truckee River 5 miles northeast of Truckee: A draft Environmental Assessment/Initial Study for the Boca Dam Safety of Dams Modification Project, and a draft contract between the United States of America and the Washoe County Water Conservation District for work on Boca Dam.

A public meeting to solicit comments on both documents will be held:

* Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Hampton Inn and Suites, Reno West, 900 Ambassador Dr., Reno, NV 89523

Reclamation proposes to excavate material from within Boca Reservoir to construct a shear key and stability berm on the downstream face of the dam, and modify the spillway crest structure. The project would reduce seismic risks and meet Reclamation’s interim public protection guidelines.

The draft EA/IS was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_projdetails.cfm?Project_ID=27372. Written comments may be taken during the public meeting or may be sent to Alexandra Woodward, Bureau of Reclamation, MP-152, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825, by close of business Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018. The draft repayment contract is available at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvpia/docs/boca-sod-repayment-contract-final-negotiation-draft.pdf.
