Yuma, Ariz. - The Bureau of Reclamation’s Yuma Area Office announced today that beginning in Fall 2018, construction contractors performing work on behalf of the agency will temporarily detour traffic on portions of Laguna Dam Road immediately downstream of the Imperial Dam to accommodate the removal and replacement of two bridge decks.
In addition to installation of new decks, contractors will install new guardrails on the bridges on both the California and Arizona sides of the dam.
In support of the construction activities to replace the structures, Reclamation received funding support from the Federal Highway Administration to replace both bridge decks and to use some of the funds for project design and administration of the construction contract.
Reclamation has provided a map that highlights the location of the repairs that will be made to the bridges - which is available for viewing at: https://www.usbr.gov/lc/yuma/index.html
The entire project will take approximately three months to complete - with construction activities estimated to commence in early September and conclude in early December. Since construction work on the bridges will involve the operation of heavy equipment and staging of construction materials near the dam, traffic will be reduced to one lane on intermittent occasions to ensure safe public travel through the construction zone while the decks are being replaced.
Questions or comments about the upcoming construction work should be directed to Micah J. Leadford, Project Manager with the Central Federal Lands Highway Division, at telephone number (720) 963-3498 or via email at: micah.leadford@dot.gov.
