The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Sept. 7, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released a draft Environmental Assessment to disclose potential environmental effects and solicit public comment associated with the Bogus Creek Flow Meter Installation Project, located in Siskiyou County, California.

The project seeks funding under Reclamation’s Klamath River Coho Habitat Restoration Grant Project, which is an identified conservation measure in the 2013 Biological Opinions on the Effects of Proposed Klamath Project Operations and in the Final Recovery Plan for Southern Oregon/Northern California Coasts coho salmon. Through this program, Reclamation grant funds would be used to aid in habitat restoration and enhancement within the Klamath River Basin for this area’s threatened coho salmon populations.

The proposed project is part of a larger fish passage/screening project administered by Trout Unlimited in partnership with the State of California and the Northern California Resource Center. The project aims to improve fish passage in Bogus Creek, a tributary of the Klamath River.

Bogus Creek is one of the most utilized salmon spawning tributaries in the Klamath Basin for coho salmon, as it provides a consistent supply of cold water that is vital to coho populations.

The draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=34681
