Reclamation issues snowmelt forecast for Bighorn River Basin

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on May 10, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

BILLINGS, Mont. -- Reclamation's May forecast of the April through July runoff predicted for the Bighorn River Basin is as follows:

Bighorn Lake - Bighorn River April through July inflow to Bighorn Lake is forecast to be approximately 984,000 acre-feet (af), which is 78% of the 30-year average of 1,262,200 af. Approximately 149,000 af of the forecast volume was accumulated during April, which is 84% of the April average.

* Buffalo Bill Reservoir - Shoshone River April through July inflow to Buffalo Bill Reservoir is forecast at 600,000 af, which is 80% of the 30-year average of 749,000 af. Approximately 40,000 af of the forecast volume was accumulated during April, which is 86% of the April average.

* Boysen Reservoir - Wind River April through July inflow to Boysen Reservoir is forecast at 450,000 af, which is 72% of the 30-year average of 621,400 af. Approximately 41,700 af of the forecast volume was accumulated during April, which is 82% of the April average.

* Bull Lake Reservoir - April through July snowmelt runoff into Bull Lake Reservoir from Bull Lake Creek is expected to be 125,000 af, which is 87% of the 30-year average of 144,000 af. Approximately 3,000 af of the forecast volume was accumulated during April, which is 74% of the April average.

* Wind River - April through July snowmelt runoff into the Wind River above Bull Lake Creek is expected to be 350,000 af, which is 80% of the 30-year average of 437,600 af. Approximately 25,000 af of the forecast volume was accumulated during April, which is 93% of the April average.
