LOVELAND, Colo. - Bureau of Reclamation staff from the Eastern Colorado Area Office have scheduled maintenance on Olympus Dam Monday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will be increasing the cubic feet per second water flow in the Big Thompson River. Reclamation staff will be conducting a diver inspection and maintenance on spillway gates which will require discontinued power generation diversion from the Big Thompson River.
During the maintenance period, Olympus Dam release to the Big Thompson River will increase from 125 cfs to approximately 800 cfs starting Sunday June 6 and ending late Monday June 7. Olympus Dam will bypass all reservoir inflow during this timeframe. Lake Estes has no ability to store inflow and downstream patrons of the Colorado Big Thompson River can expect to see a temporary increase in water levels.
Lake Estes, below Estes Power Plant, is formed by Olympus Dam constructed across the Big Thompson River. The afterbay storage in Lake Estes and the forebay storage in Marys Lake enable the Estes Power Plant to meet daily variations in energy demand.
