OGDEN, Utah - The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that Highway 158 over Pineview Dam will be periodically closed during the summer and fall of 2021 to complete necessary repairs and maintenance work at the dam. The maintenance will involve repairs to the spillway radial gates, which is vital in keeping the dam in good working order. Water releases and reservoir levels will not be impacted by the maintenance.
The closures are estimated to be one-day at a time during weekdays for at least four different dates and only during critical stages of work. The first closure will begin on July 20. The duration of closure may vary for each instance depending on the complexity and quantity of work being conducted. Advance notice of each of these daily closures will be posted by highway signs and the Pineview Water Systems Facebook page.
Pineview Dam is located in the Ogden River Canyon about 7 miles east of Ogden, Utah. The dam is a zoned earthfill structure. The capacity of the reservoir is 110,150 acre-feet and the structural height of the dam is 137 feet. The spillway, controlled by the radial gates, has a capacity of 10,000 cubic feet per second. The dam provides water downstream 4.7 miles through the Ogden Canyon for municipal, industrial, and agriculture needs.
Pineview Dam is owned by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and is operated and maintained by the Ogden River Water Users Association. The public’s understanding and patience is appreciated as this critically important work is completed.
