WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Reclamation announces the selection of Nate Shimatsu as the human capital officer. He will oversee all aspects of human capital management for Reclamation’s workforce of nearly 6,000 federal employees.

Shimatsu’s responsibilities include developing and implementing effective human capital policies and programs, with an emphasis on talent strategy, employee engagement, organizational development and performance management.

“Nate brings a unique blend of seasoned leadership and extensive human resources experience to this critical leadership position," said Grayford Payne, Reclamation’s deputy commissioner for policy, administration, and budget. “He will play a key role in elevating the effectiveness of our human capital management to support Reclamation’s highly skilled and technically diverse workforce."

Shimatsu served as the human resources officer for Reclamation’s Columbia-Pacific Northwest Region for the last 10 years. His background includes key supervisory roles throughout Reclamation over the last 20 years in human resources and employee and labor relations.

“I am honored to work with Reclamation leadership to help advance our people-centered culture," said Shimatsu. “Effectively supporting our talented workforce and enhancing the capabilities of our skilled human resources professionals will be crucial during these challenging times for Reclamation and our nation."

Shimatsu holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration (human resources) from Boise State University.
