Last week, the Bureau of Land Management Central Yukon Field Office reopened the Arctic Circle Campground as reduced fire activity along the Dalton Highway allowed fire crews to head home.
The campground was temporarily closed on June 20 when the Fish Fire advanced toward the Arctic Circle Wayside and the entrance to the campground. As the fire died down, the site remained closed to the public so fire crews could use the campground while working the Dalton Highway Fire Complex.
“We are grateful to everyone that worked the Dalton Highway wildfires during an incredibly active fire season,” said Field Manager Tim La Marr. “We appreciate the public’s patience while the campground was used to help combat the fires.”
The campground offers 19 campsites, complete with leveled campsites, fire rings and picnic tables. The campground has bear resistant trash cans and two vault toilets. Water is not available at this location.
