Today, USAID Administrator Samantha Power spent her second day in Colombia leading the Presidential Delegation to attend the Inauguration of His Excellency Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego. Administrator Power met with environmental defenders, who shared their experiences working to protect biodiversity and spur action to address climate change, advance peace, and enhance rural development. Environmental defenders face many threats to their safety in Colombia, and Administrator Power recognized the advocates for their bravery and commitment to addressing climate change and environmental issues, which is a key shared priority in the U.S.-Colombia partnership.
Following the meeting, the Administrator attended the inauguration ceremony of President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego in Simon Bolívar Plaza along with the other members of the United States delegation.
