Norway Citizen Charged with Making Threatening Interstate Communications

Portland, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced today that Espen Brungodt, 28, of Norway, was arrested and charged in U.S. District Court by criminal complaint with making threatening interstate communications.

According to court records, on Aug. 3, 2016, Brungodt sent an email to the Portland Police Department in which he threatened to kill police officers.

The defendant will make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Portland today at 2:00 p.m.

He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Portland Police Department.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
