Tampa, Florida - United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III announces that Ahmid Cecil Lewis (27, Tampa) today pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition while a felon. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
According to court documents, on Aug. 12, 2016, a person called 911 to report a road rage incident on Busch Boulevard, in Tampa. The complainant reported that a man in a car had cut him off and then waved a pistol. An officer with the Tampa Police Department responded to the 911 call, located the car that Lewis was driving, and pulled it over. Lewis was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Upon searching the car, the officer found a loaded.40 caliber pistol under the driver’s seat. At the time, Lewis was a convicted felon and therefore was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tampa Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Taylor G. Stout.
