McLaughlin Man Found Not Guilty of Assault Charges

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that a McLaughlin, South Dakota, man was acquitted of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury as a result of a federal jury trial in Aberdeen, South Dakota, beginning on Nov. 13, 2017, and concluding on Nov. 14, 2017.

Richard Todd Steele, age 37, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 14, 2017.

The charge stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred in April 2017, in McLaughlin.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.
