MADISON, WIS. -- - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Rod Hunt, 56, Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 154 months in federal prison for bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the robbery, and 18 months for violating the conditions of his supervised release for a prior federal conviction. The 18-month sentence imposed for violating supervised release will run consecutive to the 154-month sentence for bank robbery and brandishing a firearm. Hunt was also ordered to pay $350 in restitution to Associated Bank.
Hunt was convicted of brandishing a firearm during the robbery of Associated Bank in Madison on May 16, 2017. At the time Hunt robbed the bank, he was on federal supervised release for a conviction of failing to register as a sex offender.
Hunt was arrested the day of the robbery after the investigation revealed that a man matching the description of the robber called a cab from a nearby business. The address that was provided to the cab driver led law enforcement to Hunt’s residence. In addition, the robber was captured on video surveillance cameras discarding items of clothing, which were recovered and found to contain Hunt’s DNA.
The charges against Hunt were the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger.
