FBI Media Alert: Arrest Made in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Homicide

FBI Media Alert: Arrest Made in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Homicide

The FBI has made a probable cause arrest of Dennis Velasquez, Jr., 24, of Gallina, New Mexico, on a federal charge of murder in connection with a shooting death on Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo.

Velasquez is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.

Velasquez was arrested at his residence on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

He is accused in the death of an adult Native American male whose body was found on NM 68, near Ohkay Owingeh Casino, on Saturday January 5, 2019.

Ohkay Owingeh Police, U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the New Mexico State Police assisted with the investigation.

No further details will be released until after Velasquez’s court appearance.

The public is reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent unless convicted in a court of law.
